If anything, the Preds should be considered sellers today. This team has shown no consistency for 4 months - and might sneak into the playoffs or barely miss even if Smith & Grandlund are gone. Either way - it would be a shame to miss the playoffs and not get anything for Smith or Granlund. That's the only driving factor for Poile to make a move. Adding a mediocre D-man? Doesn't make sense.
Arvidsson and Johansen have been a disaster. Forsberg & Duchene have been OK - but not worth their contracts. Turris has shown some flash under Hynes' system & is finally playing more like a $6MM forward. Ultimately - Poile is on the hook for overpaying for guys who are under-performing.

If all anybody wants to give you for them if a late third of fourth round pick though, then what's the point? Giving them away for nothing isn't all that different from them walking away at the end of the year in free agency. Unless somebody offers a decent return for one of those guys, I just as soon hang onto them and see what happens the rest of the season. Maybe hang on to them to the very last minute and see if you can coax someone into overpaying, but don't trade either one for peanuts just to trade them. If Poile does absolutely nothing today, I'm perfectly fine with it. Just please don't trade our #1 for Ryan Hartman again.
